I've been trying to follow the creation of this new GCC currency for a few years now. Despite all the compelling evidence that is could or should be backed by gold, there has been no material in the news or on the web stating that gold would even be a part of it's backing. The material and news suggest it will be a basket of currencies including the dollar and euro. That info was currency last month and I've seen no changes. Of course there is a lot of time this year for other financial and currency problems to occur so don't exclude gold, but I have not seen anything even suggesting it would be backed by gold. Malaysia is settling some international business with gold dinars and trying to expand in that direction however it is still kinda new for their trading partners. I'm all for the gold backing and transactions, but I think this year it is still a dream.
